Respiratory Fit Testing
An Overview
Essential mask fitting for manual industries
{
In many of today’s workplace environments, a respirator and a proper respirator fit test are critical components of employee respiratory protection.
Fire service and law enforcement employees, as well as industrial companies and healthcare professionals have come to depend on properly fitting respirators for protection from respiratory hazards, such as chemical and environmental hazards, as well as airborne biohazards.
When implemented correctly, a respirator fit testing program can help ensure that the highest respiratory protection levels are achieved through a properly sized and donned respirator.
A mask fitting service takes around 15-20 minutes (depends how quickly the right size mask is tested).

“We engaged AusHealth to conduct quantitative fit tests to meet our requirements under the Victorian Respiratory Protection Program (RPP). This legislative program will assist Ambulance Victoria in implementing structured interventions and prevention strategies that minimises the risks of Ambulance Victoria Officers being exposed to respiratory hazards, including coronavirus (COVID-19).
“AusHealth have been conducting on-site fit tests to establish a safe protocol ensuring the protection of our Ambulance Officers while conducting their duties while wearing masks. We have found the AusHealth staff to be competent, diligent, and accurate and have a sound understanding of the PortaCount technology in order to efficiently evaluate multiple types of masks on Officers.
